Will it fit your watch?

Case size, bracelet stiffness and turns per day, the three things that decide whether a winder works for the watch you actually own.

Case diameter

Our wooden winders, Aeterna, Lumen, Frame and Classic, take any case up to 46 mm. That covers almost everything worn daily: a Submariner at 41 mm, a Royal Oak at 41 mm, a Speedmaster at 42 mm, a Datejust at 36 or 41.

The vaults, Cabine, Vault, Safe, Carbon and Sovereign, use XL clearance and take 56 mm and above. That is the range where a Panerai Luminor, a Richard Mille, a Hublot Big Bang or an Offshore Diver stops fitting in an ordinary winder.

Bracelet, not just the case

The number nobody publishes is the one that matters: how much room the cushion has to expand. A 40 mm case on a rigid steel bracelet needs more space than a 44 mm case on a leather strap.

Every cushion we ship is sprung, so it takes up the slack rather than forcing you to close the bracelet tighter than you would wear it. If the bracelet has to be squeezed shut, the winder is too small, that is when a rotor rubs the glass.

Turns per day, by manufacturer

These are the figures we set on the bench when you tell us what is going in. They are the settings that work for the great majority of calibres from each house, not official manufacturer data, so send us the reference and we check it before we ship.

When in doubt, go lower

A movement that is under-wound simply stops, and you wind it by hand. A movement that is over-wound for years puts unnecessary hours on the barrel and the lubricants.

Start at 650 turns a day and go up only if the watch loses time after a night off the winder. Every model we sell alternates rest and rotation cycles rather than turning continuously.

Watches a winder will not help

Quartz watches need a battery, not motion. Manual-wind movements have no rotor to spin, so a winder does nothing at all, the Classic chest is the right answer for those.

A perpetual calendar or an annual calendar is the strongest case for a winder: stopping means a jeweller reset rather than a five-minute correction.

Names shown for fitment only

The manufacturers listed on this page are not our brands and we are not affiliated with any of them. They appear so you can check that a winder suits a watch you already own. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.

The winder problem nobody mentions: your bracelet

Most winders are sold on capacity and finish. The reason they disappoint is neither, it is the two centimetres of clearance behind the cushion.

The measurement on the box is the wrong one

Every winder listing tells you it fits cases up to 44 or 46 mm. That figure describes the width of the cushion, which is not the constraint. The constraint is the arc a watch sweeps when the rotor turns, and that arc is set by the bracelet, not the case.

Put a 41 mm Submariner on an Oyster bracelet into a winder rated for 44 mm and the case fits perfectly. Then the rotor rotates, the clasp end swings out, and the bracelet grazes the glass once per revolution. Nine hundred times a day.

What actually goes wrong

Three things, in order of how often we hear about them. The bracelet marks the inside of the door, which shows as a dull arc on the glass. The watch is loaded too tight to compensate, which stops the rotor from swinging freely and quietly under-winds the movement. Or the cushion is compressed so hard that it takes a set and no longer holds a lighter watch.

None of these show up in the first week. They show up at three months, by which point the winder has been dismissed as noisy or ineffective when the real fault was clearance.

How much room is enough

We size for the bracelet at its natural closed diameter, not the case. In practice that means a compartment 20 to 25 mm deeper than the case measurement suggests, and a cushion that gives rather than resists.

On our wooden winders, Aeterna, Lumen, Frame, that covers everything up to 46 mm on a steel bracelet. Beyond that, the geometry has to change rather than stretch, which is why the vaults exist.

Where the Cabine 24 comes in

The Cabine 24 was specified around this single problem. Its compartments use XL spacing built for oversized cases, 56 mm and above, with clearance calculated for rigid bracelets rather than straps. A Royal Oak Offshore, a Panerai Luminor and a Big Bang can sit side by side without any of them touching a neighbour or the glass.

The rest follows from that decision. Independently programmable near-silent Japanese rotors, so each watch gets its own turns and direction. SmartFit adaptive cushions that hold a delicate leather strap and a heavy steel bracelet with the same grip. Encrypted fingerprint access, and LED strip lighting behind tempered glass so twenty-four or thirty watches read as a display rather than storage.

Two questions before you buy anything

First: measure your largest watch on its bracelet, closed as you wear it, across the widest point. Not the case, the whole thing. That number is what a winder has to accommodate.

Second: ask the seller what the compartment clearance is, not what case size it fits. If the answer is only a case figure, they have not thought about it.

Tell us what is going in and we set the turns and direction on the bench, run the winder for twenty-four hours, and confirm the fit before it is packed. If it will not fit, we say so rather than sell you the wrong thing.

About

About Watch Winder House

We sell one thing, and we would rather sell it properly.

What we do

Watch Winder House is an independent business run from Zürich. We select and sell automatic watch winders, from a two-watch box to a thirty-position cabinet with a biometric lock. Nothing else.

We test every unit before it ships, set the turns to a sensible default, and answer the phone when something goes wrong.

Why winders

A mechanical watch that stops is not damaged, but it is inconvenient: the date needs resetting, the hands need resetting, and a perpetual calendar can take a jeweller. A winder removes that chore.

Where the products come from

Our units are made to specification in Guangdong by the workshops that build for several established European brands, with Japanese Mabuchi motors throughout. We do not claim a Swiss or German origin, because that would not be true.

How to reach us

Customer service

Frequently asked questions

The questions we are asked most. If yours is not here, write to us.

Will it fit my watch?

Any case up to 46 mm, on bracelet or strap. The cushions are sprung, so a heavy steel bracelet sits as securely as a leather strap.

How many turns per day does my watch need?

Most automatic movements want between 650 and 950 turns per day; a few need up to 1,950. Check your manufacturer booklet, then set the figure on the panel. When in doubt, start low.

Is it quiet enough for a bedroom?

Yes. The motors are Japanese Mabuchi units damped in the housing. At one metre you hear a faint whirr when a rotor turns, and nothing between cycles.

Does leaving a watch on a winder wear it out?

No. A movement is designed to run. Correct turns and alternating direction keep the lubricants distributed, which is gentler than long periods stopped.

Can it run on batteries?

The wooden winders can. The cabinets and the safe run from mains only, because of the lighting and the lock.

What if the fingerprint reader fails?

Every unit with a biometric lock also ships with an override code and a mechanical key.

Do you ship outside the EU?

Yes, worldwide, and shipping is free. Customs duties and import taxes are taken care of by us, the supplier: where your country applies them, they are settled at checkout, in the total you see before you pay. Nothing is asked by the carrier and nothing at the door.

Can I order a finish that is not listed?

Sometimes. Write to us with what you have in mind and we will tell you whether the factory can do it and at what cost.

Customer service

Order tracking

Where your parcel is, and what to do when the tracking goes quiet.

Your tracking number

It is sent by email when the parcel is collected, usually two working days after your order. Check your spam folder before writing to us.

Nothing is moving

A tracking page can stay still for up to five working days while a parcel crosses a hub or waits at customs. This is normal and rarely means anything is wrong.

After ten days of silence

Write to us with your order number. We open an investigation with the carrier, and if the parcel is confirmed lost we reship or refund in full.

Delivered but not received

Check with neighbours and any concierge first, then tell us within seven days. Insurance covers a confirmed non-delivery.

Customer service

Two-year warranty

Manufacturing faults in motors, boards and locks, covered for two years from the day your parcel arrives.

What is covered

Manufacturing faults in motors, control boards, touch panels, LED strips, biometric readers and locks. Repair or replacement at our choice. You ship the unit to us at your cost; we cover the return leg.

What is not covered

Marks, scratches and lacquer wear from normal use. Cushions and lining. Damage from liquid, drops, transport after delivery, a housing that has been opened, incorrect settings, or a power supply we did not supply.

The warranty covers the winder only. It does not extend to any watch placed in it: we accept no liability for loss, damage, magnetisation or loss of accuracy of a watch, however caused. Check your watch manufacturer's guidance before use.

Making a claim

Email hello@watchwinderhouse.com with your order number and a short video of the fault. Most claims are settled within three working days.

Your statutory rights

This commercial warranty adds to, and never replaces, whatever statutory guarantee applies where you live.

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Klarna, and bank transfer for orders above USD 1,500.

How your details are handled

When you are charged

In full at the time of order. If we cannot fulfil the order, the charge is reversed within five working days.

Currency

All prices and charges are in US dollars. Customs duties and local taxes, where they apply, are handled by us and settled at checkout, so the total at checkout is the total you pay. Your bank may apply its own conversion if your account is held in another currency.

Shipping

Shipping policy

Every order ships free, tracked and insured, to your door. Customs duties and import taxes are taken care of by us, the supplier: where they apply, they are settled at checkout, and nothing is asked of you afterwards.

Processing time

Orders are checked and packed within two working days. Each winder is powered up and run before it leaves us, so a rotor that will not turn never reaches you.

You receive a tracking number by email the moment the parcel is collected.

Delivery time

France and EU: 8 to 14 working days. United Kingdom, Switzerland, United States and Canada: 10 to 18 working days. Rest of the world: 12 to 21 working days.

These are working days after dispatch, not calendar days, and they exclude any delay at customs.

Shipping cost

Free on every order, everywhere we ship. There is no minimum basket.

Customs duties and taxes, no surprises

Watch Winder House, as the supplier, takes charge of customs duties and import formalities on every order. Where your country applies import duties, VAT or other local taxes, they are calculated and settled at checkout, in the total you see before you pay. That total is the total you pay.

Nothing is asked by the carrier and nothing is asked at the door, in any country we ship to. If a carrier ever presents a charge on delivery, do not pay it: write to hello@watchwinderhouse.com with a photo of the notice and we settle it directly.

If a parcel is refused or cannot be delivered, the return shipping and any fees charged by the carrier are deducted from the refund.

Delivery to the door

Delivery is to the threshold of the address given: the front door of a house, or the building entrance of an apartment block. Cabinets and safes are heavy and travel on a pallet; the carrier will not carry them upstairs, inside, unpack or install them. Please arrange help for the last few metres.

Address errors

Tell us within twelve hours of ordering if the address is wrong and we will correct it at no cost. After dispatch, a parcel returned because of an incorrect address is reshipped at your expense.

Lost or damaged parcels

Every shipment is insured in transit. Inspect the parcel on delivery and note any damage on the carrier's slip before signing; report it to us with photographs within 48 hours. Claims made after 48 hours, or without a note on the slip, cannot be accepted by the insurer. If the tracking has not moved for ten working days, tell us and we open an investigation with the carrier.

Returns

Refund policy

Thirty days to change your mind, at your cost, and a two-year warranty on the mechanism.

Right of withdrawal

You may return any item within thirty days of delivery, no reason needed. This is in addition to any statutory right you hold.

The item must come back unused, complete, with all accessories, in its original packaging and in a condition that allows it to be sold as new. Items that show use, marks or missing parts are refunded at a reduced value or returned to you.

How to start a return

Email hello@watchwinderhouse.com with your order number. We reply with a return address and instructions within one working day. Do not send anything back before you have that email.

Return shipping

Return shipping is at your expense and at your risk. Use a tracked, insured service and keep the receipt: an item lost or damaged on its way back to us cannot be refunded. For cabinets and safes this means palletised freight, which we can quote for you on request.

For an item that arrives faulty or is not what you ordered, we pay for the return once the fault is confirmed.

Refund timing

Once the item reaches us and passes inspection, the refund of the item price is issued to your original payment method within five working days. Your bank may take a further three to five days to show it. Original shipping is not refunded. Duties and taxes settled at checkout are refunded only where we can recover them from the customs authority.

Faulty items

A manufacturing fault in a motor, board or lock within two years is repaired or replaced free of charge. You send the unit to us; we cover the return leg. Wear on cushions, glass and lacquer from normal use is not covered.

What we cannot accept

Items damaged by misuse, opened housings, missing power adapters, items returned without prior agreement, and any item returned after thirty days without a warranty claim. Bespoke builds such as the Monolith are made to order and cannot be returned.

The seller

This site is operated by Watch Winder House, an independent business registered in Switzerland, with its address at Austrasse 7, 8045 Zürich. Contact: hello@watchwinderhouse.com.

Products and prices

Prices are shown in US dollars, shipping included. The supplier takes charge of customs duties and import formalities: where import duty, VAT or another charge applies in your country, it is shown and settled at checkout, and no further charge is made at destination. As a Swiss business under the CHF 100,000 threshold, the business is not registered for Swiss VAT, so no VAT is itemised on the invoice. We may change prices at any time, but never after your order is confirmed.

Photographs are indicative. Wood grain, lacquer depth and interior lining vary slightly from one piece to the next.

Orders

Your order is accepted when we send the confirmation email. We may refuse an order in case of an obvious pricing error, suspected fraud, or a delivery address we cannot ship to.

Payment

Payment is taken in full at the time of order, through our payment provider, over an encrypted connection. We do not store card numbers.

Delivery and risk

Delivery is free, to the threshold of the address given. Risk passes to you when the parcel is handed over at that address. Customs duties, import formalities and any charge levied at destination are handled by the supplier and settled at checkout; you are never asked to pay anything to the carrier or at the door. Delivery estimates are estimates, not guarantees, and a delay does not by itself entitle you to cancel unless it exceeds thirty days.

Warranty and liability

Every product carries a two-year commercial warranty on motors and electronics, alongside any statutory guarantee of conformity you hold under the law of your country of residence.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our liability for any claim is limited to the price you paid for the item. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for any watch placed in a winder, or for costs of installation or removal.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Swiss law, with the courts of Zürich competent. Nothing here removes the mandatory consumer protections of your own country of residence, including the right of an EU consumer to bring a claim locally.
